As we tick off the days on our calendars and excitement booms for Kloof Wine Estate in Darling to open their gates on the 4th of October for Daisies 2012. Once again the best in live entertainment, lifestyle exhibitions and gourmet food will be on offer, jam-packed with cutting edge, quality music, art fields and facilities aimed to cater for everyone from child care to comedic relief. We all love a good excuse for a festival, and the hardy yet handy olive is certainly worthy of a weekend's celebration. The picturesque and neighbouring Swartland towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West are hosting their annual Riebeek Valley Olive Festival on the 5th and 6th May 2012, which promises to showcase the best they have to offer in food, wine, and of course, olives. Set in a simple fisherman's cottage on the town's Voorstrandt beach, it is the brainchild and lifelong dream of Suzi Holtzhauzen, who says she "lives to cook". She started her vocation in all things food with an intensive three-year Cordon Bleu course at Silwood Kitchen, Cape Town, and specialises in local foods with a twist, made from locally produced ingredients, prepared the West Coast way. The Darling Music Experience, Darling!


    The West Coast town of Darling is set to come alive over two weekends from 3-12 February with the 2012 Darling Music Experience. Exemplary South African and international artists will perform fresh interpretations of classical music in the light-hearted atmosphere that has distinguished this festival since its inception in 2006. Under the artistic directorship of Andreas Kern you can expect great music, packaged dynamically, ranging from classical solo recitals on cello, guitar, marimba and organ to be a jazzed-up gig by a brass quintet. Furthermore: the recorder will team up with a guitar, the cello with a piano, the marimba with a penny whistle, the lute with a piano and a most talented soprano with a                  


Tulbagh Spring Arts Festival 2011


      The historic Cape Winelands town of Tulbagh is hosting a Spring Arts Festival over the weekend of 26-28 August 2011, celebrating the arts in all their varied forms. The festival also coincides with the spring wildflowers, which include several varieties of rare endemic bulbs that only flower in the Tulbagh valley.
