Redelinghuys – Lavender Festival

Redelinghuys Lavender Festival 1 September 2012

For those that have travelled up the N7 towards Piketberg and swung a sho’t left on the R366 you would know exactly where this quaint little Sandveld town lies. Redelinghuys was originally part of the farm Wittedrift.  Sir George Napier handed it over on 31 December 1841 to a Mr. Hendrik Koetzee, who passed away in 1848. Thereafter a Mr. J.N.L. Redelinghuys bought the farm and offered the Church a piece of the land on the farm as a gift. Redelinghuys is a small dorpie and is most commonly known for their ground roots – Yup Folks, it is potato paradise! Some of the Cape’s best root veg are sourced right there and celebrated annually with a potato festival! The next “BIG” thing to popping out of the Redelinghuys soil is the

Out of the Closet…. Onto the Rugby Field

Donate rugby gear

In the aftermath of a fantastic Rugby weekend, South Africa is welling with pride. We’ve seen Heyneke Meyer’s Springboks get off to a flying start, the BabyBoks playing like demons and John Smit proudly represented at his testimonial match. But rugby is not all about tries, physical competition and success; it is also a sport that gives back to fans and less fortunate communities. This is epitomised by the initiative Out of the Closet Onto The Rugby Field. Out of the Closet Onto The Rugby Field encourages all current and ex-rugby players to rummage through their closets and to donate their old gear to less fortunate communities. The initiative does fantastic work at schools and clubs across the Western Cape,

Sringboks vs English roses

Having already destroyed their opponents in the first two tests, this Saturday the Springboks are out to complete a series whitewash. The English, on the other hand, will be hoping to taste success against our green and gold warriors for the first time this tour. Whatever the result, Cape Town Fish Market promises to make the taste of victory or defeat delicious with a unique and mouth watering promotion.  Here’s how it works: this Saturday, 23 June, you enter the Cape Town Fish Market restaurant of your choice, making sure you are there well before the 17h00 kickoff. If you predict the Bokke will win the evening’s match, order a West Coast Potjie. If you think the English will finish the series on a wining note,

UNE CORRECTION SIGNEE LES BOKS

Newlands-stadium-cape-town

Thursday nights in Cape Town

Tonight’s tangibly pulsating nightlife will testify to a long-standing, unspoken tradition, that I blame on influence of the winelands, – beginning the weekend on Thursdays. When it comes to the weekend, the Western Cape is as preemptive as Bush with a pocketful of nukes. For those of you that haven’t been, swank and swagger is what you’ll find at Hemisphere. On the 31st floor, set overlooking the cityscape, filled with those dressed to impress, the view is striking inside and out. Fully stocked with drink specials, great blends of R&B, house, electro and hip-hop, as well as all the VIP bells and whistles, this one comes highly recommended. If cleaning up the act is not in the cards and you’d

Wednesdays out are outward bound

My favourite thing about Wednesdays – STELLENBOSCH! For those of you who have not been, tonight promises to be prime. The quaint town by day, will churn out every newly-returned Stellenbosch student to revel in the custom of frenzied festivity by night. Places of preference? I have always opted for chaos and crowds over class, but those of you seeking a calm start to the evening stop by The Brazen Head. A cosy pub that livens up for pre-drinks and keeps lively ‘til the early hours. To those seeking stomach lining, Aandklas offers fantastic pizza over old school rock and a draught. For those who start the night in fifth gear, as I like to, hit up Terrace. Legend has it that they are the largest distributor of Cane in

Cape Town Tuesdays

b11

Part two of this week's to-dos. A crowded town Tuesday is evidence of an unspoken cultural agreement in the cape – a preemptive intervention approach to midweek stress. Tuesday night is time to go out in full force. While Claremont is not for everyone, there is no surer bet for crowds and atmosphere tonight. The Claremont strip’s favourites include Springboks, Tiger Tiger, Tin Roof, Tantra, and –new, but highly popular kid on the block – Club 91. Tiger Tuesday’s promise free drinks ‘til ten and top of the chart tracks to get you swaying. The plush interiors of this well-designed club allow ample bar space and a sunken, dense dance-floor. Be sure to arrive collared, smart-shoed and on time - the 9-10PM line gets notoriously
