Constantia Food & Wine Festival

We do love our food and wine festivals down here in the Cape - they are the perfect excuse to experience a whole variety of tastes and flavours, all condensed in one place. Which is maybe another reason we love such festivals: we're often a bit too laid back to go out and visit each restaurant or winery. The Constantia Food & Wine Festival is back, taking place between Friday 4 and Sunday 6 May 2012 at the Constantia Uitsig Cricket Oval. Which is also convenient for those who don't like travelling too far out of Cape Town. This popular annual event showcases over 40 of the finest wines and delicious food from the valley's award-winning restaurants. Organisers promise that visitors will be treated to

Gaatjie Saltwater Restaurant, Paternoster

Next time you're on the West Coast, make sure you make a booking at Gaatjie Saltwater Restaurant, which has fast established itself as one of the culinary highlights of a trip to Paternoster. Set in a simple fisherman's cottage on the town's Voorstrandt beach, it is the brainchild and lifelong dream of Suzi Holtzhauzen, who says she "lives to cook". She started her vocation in all things food with an intensive three-year Cordon Bleu course at Silwood Kitchen, Cape Town, and specialises in local foods with a twist, made from locally produced ingredients, prepared the West Coast way. Specialities include West Coast mussel dishes, oysters, sardines, lobster, various fish, and a creation of anything that is

Real Restaurant Revelations: Kerin “I like to braai” D’Offizi.

After countless attempts to get a table at the young stallion of an eatery, What’s On, I was finally awarded a table for two on the 28th of April. I accepted gracefully/graciously. I began salivating at the thought of finally being able to come together (in a moment of pure, irresistible pleasure) with Chef Kerin D’Offizi’s speciality – food. Good food. Kerin, 30, hails from our big village by the sea, Cape Town and proudly claims his undying love for the city. He trained at the well known Cape College at a time when women still wore bonnets and Cavendish was but a square of cattle grazing territory, thirteen, yes 13, years ago. Kerin still refuses to divulge information of his life as a dinosaur

We review Blakes Lounge and Bar

Blakes is one of those Cape Town venues that have the good fortune of being able to boast that most important of selling points: a view. And not just any view, mind you, but a jaw-droppingly spectacular vantage point looking directly at the imposing edifice of Table Mountain. That's why the top level of Blakes is really the place to start as you enter through the venue's large Asian doors and are faced with the first of the venue's three levels: the Kimono Lounge & Persian Deck. Arriving for dinner on a weeknight, this plush and dark club section was predictably empty, so we took the stairs up to the second level – the bar and restaurant area. Here we found the Long Bar, with a large and welcoming bar
