Celebrate the start of spring by heading to the Laborie Lazy Days’ Market, for their fun filled spring-inspired market this Saturday, 1st September. Expect freshly baked breads, coffee, cheese, olives, honey and charcuterie. From mouth-watering food stalls to arts and craft exhibitors – it is all happening at Laborie! Chef Matthew Gordon, resident chef at Harvest, the restaurant at Laborie, will be treating foodies to a cooking demo, as the flowers are in full bloom he will show you how to cook with these edible garden beauties.   Olives have become synonymous with the Western Cape's Mediterranean climate and love of good food and wine, and are also a fantastically hardy and diverse fruit. We all love a good excuse for a festival, and the hardy yet handy olive is certainly worthy of a weekend's celebration. The picturesque and neighbouring Swartland towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West are hosting their annual Riebeek Valley Olive Festival on the 5th and 6th May 2012, which promises to showcase the best they have to offer in food, wine, and of course, olives. Next weekend, the South African Cheese festival returns to us in all it's stinky goodness! In truth, I'm still not convinced that Cheese festival is a and adequate name. While I dare not blaspheme against the quality and variety of cheeses at the SA Cheese festival, the name shneakily hides the incredible array of other appetizers and palate-pamperers on show.  In the sanctuary of Simondium, somewhere between Paarl and Franschhoek, the SA Cheese festival returns to Bien Donné farm from the 24th until the 27th of April.
