Franschhoek certainly can't be accused of resting on its laurels and being complacent. As if the town isn't already blessed with breathtaking scenery combined with some of the best wine farms and restaurants in the country, it is now striving to make a visit to the valley even more rewarding. Exciting things await Franschhoek this spring: visitors will be able to take a leisurely tram journey through the valley, taking the concept of a food and wine experience to a whole new level. In fact, the town wants the new tram to become a tourist icon in the same mould as the Table Mountain Cableway or Cape Point Funicular.     ‘The Gallery’ at the award-winning Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, Franschhoek, proudly presents a solo exhibition, ‘Cultural Contrasts’, by celebrated Pretoria-based artist, Willie van Rensburg, which opens on Sunday, 16 October 2011 at 11h00 with the Director of the Association of Arts Pretoria, Pieter van Heerden, as the opening speaker and runs until 16 November 2011. The title of the show makes references to the contrasts of historical African traditions and contemporary African society. Inspired by these elements, the artist apply masks and symbols in his work with bold design and colour, in order to establish a contemporary approach to the preservation of the symbolic

    Franschhoek, July 2011;  Haute Cabrière has had a long association with Pinot Noir going back to the early 1980’s when the cultivar was first planted by winegrower Achim von Arnim in Franschhoek for the production of  Pierre Jourdan Brut, a classic MCC blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Haute Cabrière’s first Pinot Noir vineyard for the creation of a still red wine was planted with Burgundy clones in 1989 and the year 1994 produced the first vintage. This maiden vintage received a 5 star rating in the Platter Guide. Pinot Noir is often referred to in Burgundy as a ‘red white wine’ because of its perfumed fruit and elegant mouth feel.         the whole team of the holden manz wine estate, located at the head of the franschhoek valley, is delighted to announce the award of a gold medal in the decanter world wine awards in london for its premium red wine, the 2009 big G. the decanter world wine awards are the premium global wine benchmark and thousands of wines are compared against each other during the event. this most prestigious award in the world of wines was announced during the london international wine fair this week. the inaugural big G is a blend of their finest cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon benefiting from 14-18 months in bordeaux cooperage-sourced, medium toast, tight grain french oak
