We have been overwhelmed by the response from local businesses who have thrown their weight and support behind our very own "local is lekker" contestant Liam Kelly. We wrote an article earlier this weekend about What'sUp with Liam - THE CapeTonian set to take the world by storm. Here's what we had to say: Liam Kelly – a CapeTonian with a mission – is set to go places –Literally! Having recently entered into the STA Travel World Explorer Competition, Liam is down to the wire having just been selected as one of the top 5 of over 4000 applicants countrywide. What’sUp has the utmost faith that our readers are going to ensure that winning this one is pretty much “in the bag” (which is already packed!). So What’sUp for grabs you may

Accommodation in Cape Town for Soccer World Cup 2010.

17 on Loader Guest House, de Waterkant, Cape Town.

The verdict is out. We now know who is playing where. The search is on for space in Cape Town - and the prices are rising. Here at 17 on Loader Guest House in Cape Town, we are being inundated with enquiries. Interestingly enough though, is that a large percentage of enquiries are coming in from America. Do they know something that we don't? Anyhow, time will tell, but for now - watch this space! We recently commissioned SWEET DUDE to take some new pictures for us. Will preview them on the blog from time to time. And with summer fever taking hold in Cape Town, and temperatures are rising in EVERY respect, why not come to our roof deck and enjoy a cold shower?

17 on Loader Guest House in de Waterkant launches it’s Official 2010 logo.

2010_logo600

In the spirit of true sportsmanship, 17 on Loader Guest House has decided to take this 2010 Soccer World Cup thingy seriously - and by doing so, has decided to create it's very own Official 2010 logo. Now we are challenging all our fellow accommodation establishment colleagues, be they Hotels, Guest Houses, Self Catering units or whatever other type you can think of - in de Waterkant or anywhere else in Cape Town - to come up with their very own logo as well. Let's have a showdown, and a contest to see who will win! Talking of winning.... Here's a few nights of accommodation at 17 on Loader Guest House up for grabs: Come up with THE BEST wording for our official 2010 T-shirt - and you could be in one of our beds in

“Loads of fun on Loader Street”

Loads of fun on Loader Street” submitted by "travelprofessor19" Kentucky Great guesthouse: safe, clean, friendly, centrally located, good deal for your money. The owner will help you with all your needs. In the morning you get a nice breakfast in a basket, which they leave in front of your door. You can eat it on the rooftop, in your bed, or at the main dining table. They will also arrange for reliable and safe airport transportation. I've recommended the place to several friends: single women, gay and straight males, older and younger. I'll definitely stay there again. Review of 17 on Loader Guest House

Review by: Vicki Peaple, London (stayed: June 2009) - sa-venues Even in the cold and rain, 17 on Loader was a lovely place to stay in Cape Town. Beautifully clean rooms, very relaxed atmosphere and breakfast baskets outside the room in the morning a lovely touch. We really appreciated the mini guided tour on arrival (!) and the friendliness of all the staff. Location was also excellent being within reach of a few nice bars and restaurants, not too far from the Waterfront and within striking distance of the city centre. Next time we'll come in summer when we can fully appreciate the roof top. A much nicer place to stay than a faceless hotel! When accommodation turns into acommodation or even accomodation!

Ever wondered why people who make their money from the provision of accommodation facilities often cannot spell the word "accommodation " correctly? It is one of my pet hates. I mean get it right! It's like saying you make a living out of playing the sport called rubgy! One of the most glaring examples I have seen recently is a large sign as you enter into Victoria Road in Bantry Bay at the end of Sea Point. Check it out - or better still - point out any that you may see on your travels (photos most welcome). Two nights accommodation (or would it now be  acommodation or  accomodation?)  at 17 on Loader Guest House are up for grabs for the most interesting submission......!

17 on Loader Guest House City sightseeing tour.

All aboard!

This is an absolute must: In fact, it is strongly recommended that every Capetonian does it at least once – if not several times …. to take the “CitySightseeing Cape Town Hop On – Hop Off Bus” around Cape Town – see www.citysightseeing.co.za . As for tourists visiting our beautiful City – we think it is mandatory! Last week, all at 17 on Loader Guest House thoroughly enjoyed the two hour “Red Route City Tour” (other options include the longer Blue Route Tour or a combination of both). We chose not to “hop on – hop off”, but for another time, we think it is an excellent option, as you can stop off at all or some of the 30 stops along the way. The buses are spotless and very modern, boasting excellent audio commentary options in
