The May 24th edition of The Big Issue comes with a strong warning for consumers: not every product label can or should be trusted. This is in line with the magazine’s cover feature on the labelling of cosmetics tested on animals. Entries for first round of The Bollinger Exceptional Wine Service Award 2013 are now open and candidates are urged to enter now as entries close on the 31 May 2013. The high standards attained by previous winners, Wayve Kolevsohn in 2012 (currently sommelier at The Test Kitchen) and Joakim Hansi Blackadder in 2011 (currently sommelier at Rust en Vrede), have set the benchmark for aspirant sommeliers. The competition is aimed at enhancing and recognising the calibre of local sommeliers and wine service staff. The third annual TOPS Gugulethu Wine Festival is set to take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of May 2013. Sparing no expense, this year the festival offers a weekend of wine tasting, music, food and wine-education. Among the highlights will be the Nederburg Taste Theatre. MasterChef South Africa Judge, Pete Goffe-Wood will be appearing alongside Nederburg winemaker Wilhelm Pienaar to take revellers on a food and wine tasting journey.
