The folks at the Ethical Co-Op have spent the last seven years developing a network of organic, free-range and ethically-sourced produce, making it easier for us all to know that what we’re buying is fair and isn’t exploiting something or someone.
As far as possible, they also try to source locally and offer a range of fruit, vegetables, dairy products, toiletries, homecare, herbs and spices. The range is constantly evolving and further products are always considered, as long as they can be “Ethical Co-Op Approved”.
The concept is simple: make the traditional farmers’ co-operative more accessible to us city-slickers. You simply register on the website and are emailed a “shopping list” of available produce for that week. You can choose either to order weekly or can implement a standing weekly order. Once payment is received, your order is either delivered to your door or can be collected from the most convenient pickup point across Cape Town for you. Customers from other parts of the country can order select produce for delivery by courier. If certain goods aren’t available that week (which is sometimes the case with fresh produce), they are simply credited to your account.
By supporting the Co-Op, you can be sure that you’re taking the first steps to becoming greener, more organic and supporting morally-sourced produce. Visit the website (there is also a fascinating blog) or follow them on Twitter @ethical_co_op
