Our sister site in Port Elizabeth, Whats Up PE did an article recently on the Alliance Francaise in Port Elizabeth we were so impressed with the cultural contributions that the organization brings to its respective host city that we decided to do a little enquiry into our very own Alliance Francaise in Cape Town and this is what we found…
Just as we had guessed the AF arranges a variety of different social events from French Cinema evenings, to trivia evenings and concerts largely focused on French culture and promoting Francophone in the City that they represent.
Next week the AF is launching an exciting Art Exhibition by French photographer Zena. She will be using her first solo exhibition to launch her new technique which involves using movement and experimental settings to enhance colours and depth of field.
The title of the Exhibition is called Stipetio, a Latin term that was used in the 16th century to describe the environment. It encapsulated everything between Space and Earth – including humans – in an endless, renewable cycle. Under that definition, humans were not mere spectators or custodians of their physical space, they were part of it.
Zena’s approach to the title within her photography is artistic, playful and colourful. With her recent travels the subject matter is largely inspired by South Africa and the magical biodiversity of the Western Cape where she has put down routes.
Visit the Alliance Francaise at 155 Loop Street, Cape Town – the exhibition opens on the 4th and runs through to the 30th June.
