Cape Town City Hall has to be one of our City’s most glam and iconic cultural, gentle-giant gems. The creative peeps of Creative Cape Town put together a proposal on how to get our City Hall back on the map as a diverse event venue. Since the birth of their City Hall Sessions project they have had the likes of artists Ismael Lo, Ray Lema, Chico Cesar and Thandiswa Mazawi perform in The City Hall, and the show has only just begun…
The City Hall Sessions return tonight for three evenings with an eclectic series of musical collaborations.
Tonight, Thursday 5th July you can catch The Bridge:
A collaboration directed by Kesivan Naidoo and Lee Thomson, The Bridge sees local & international musicians at play within the South African Jazz medium. Errol Dyers, Khaya Mahlangu, Morris Goldberg and Zolani Mahola (Freshly Ground) are featured principals. Repertoire bridges past, present and future, and is narrated by actor David Isaacs.
Friday 6 July: Closet Snare, Joe Nina and MXO:
Strings meet electronica at City Hall Sessions, as Closet Snare – complete with City Hall Chamber String Ensemble – present their grooves. Special guests: vocalist Inge Beckman, emcee Ej Von Lyrik, and keyboardist Bokani Dyer. The second set features vocalists Joe Nina and MXO in collaborative urban African brew.
Saturday 7th July: Caiphus Semenya and Madala Kunen:
Maskanda guitar icon Madala Kunune and band open Saturday night`s City Hall Sessions, before the audience is treated to a rare Cape Town performance by internationally acclaimed vocalist, composer and band leader Caiphus Semenya.
