Even though we all celebrated like crazy when our iconic Table Mountain was named as a provisional entry onto the New Seven Wonders of Nature list, some were a wee bit uneasy it wasn't quite official – until now, that is.
The Swiss-based New7Wonders foundation has confirmed Table Mountain's status as one of the New Seven Wonders is official, after an audit confirmed the result of a global voting process. More than 100 million votes were received from 220 countries.
Phew, now we can really crack open the bubbly. Again!
What's Up Cape Town joined many others in campaigning tirelessly for Table Mountain to make the list, and it now joins Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island and Puerto Princesa Underground River as having its status confirmed. The Amazon and Komodo Island remain on the provisional list.
Being part of the list is a significant boost for the city's tourism industry, and has great long-term marketing value for Cape Town, as it becomes part of school curricula and becomes a "must see" and "bucket list" item for travellers.
Time for another hike or cable car trip up the mountain perhaps?
