Dust off your berets, pull on your boots and dress up in your finest red, white and blue, and head out to SA’s leading wine and culinary destination for the annual Franschhoek Bastille Festival, now in its 20th year, which takes place over the weekend the 13th and 14 July 2013. As they say, Go Large or Go Home… With Franschhoek’s French Hugenot influence, they literally paint the town red - you can expect everything French found in every nook and cranny, live French music at various establishments, French fare, a minstrel parade, Farmers' Market, Craft Stalls, chidren's activities and much more. The focal point at the Bastille Festival 2012, as always, will be the Food and Wine Marquee, where Franschhoek's award winning

The Put Foot Rally bills itself as the "the greatest social rally on the face of the earth”, promising 7 countries, 7 checkpoints, 7 parties and 7000 km in 17 days. Quite a challenge, you think? You choose your wheels (which can range from a Toyota Corolla to a classic Range Rover), name your team and make your way through the checkpoints, which include the Fish River Canyon, Victoria Falls, Etosha, Caprivi Strip, Kariba Dam and Vilankulos. Teams of The Put Foot Rally automatically support charities of their choice annual favorites are Project Rhino and the Bobs for Good Foundation Following the inaugural 2012 event, minor changes have been effected to make it that much more brilliant, as if it needed to be!

The award-winning Franschhoek Wine Valley is preparing for the annual Cook Franschhoek this weekend. Interactive hands on demonstrations, presented by some of the valley’s highly acclaimed chefs and winemakers, will take place on the 14th, 15th and 16th June. The demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend, allowing you the opportunity to interact with the chefs and winemakers, and to master the art of intricate dishes. With the focus on exclusivity, each demonstration will range from 8 to 30 people, and costs will differ by establishment. This June and July, Wine Cellar will once again be hosting the country’s most exciting and irreverent annual wine event – Young Guns. Now in its third year, Young Guns introduces winemakers who are pushing the boundaries, flouting convention and embracing ‘natural’ winemaking. Whilst all of the participating winemakers work for notable estates, they are also producing unique, interesting and sometimes wacky wines under their own labels. Young Guns lll will be held on the 12th of June at The River Club in Observatory, Cape Town and on the 4th of July at the University of Johannesburg. The Short & Sweet Drive-In Experience on the 25th of May, held in Cape Town’s Maidens Cove, Camps Bay, was a roaring success! The screenings, which feature music videos, short films and animated features, originated in London in 2006 and then spread to the world’s hot spots, including Cape Town! The Full Moon Drive-In offers a lovely, nostalgic, night out with great films and all the snacks you could want (including a delicious Boerewors stand and, of course, popcorn). Even the weather did not disappoint as viewers were treated to a beautiful Autumn night. The selection of eight short films had been carefully chosen and honoured some very talented film makers.
